A post about beer

posted by Jon

Hey, all. Just a heads-up on some of the goings on around here. But first, let's check our mailbox (or, comments from the last post). And, actually, before we do that, let's jump!

Ryan A from Hooterville writes: "Just and observation: all my Biran came in a brown bottle with a black top. The cheater bar to the right says it should be a green bottle with a black top. Maybe I got a special batch of extra good stuff? I dare wager that only the best Biran comes in brown bottles. Green bottle Biran may have gone bad."

Sorry, Ryan A (if that is your real name), all of the good stuff ended up in green bottles. We ran out of the Biran after filling about half of them and decided to fill the other half (in brown bottles) with cat urine and Tommyknocker Imperial Nut Brown Ale.

Jeff and Rebecca Steigenga, also from Hooterville wrote: "Is there any way we can get our next batch delivered before we leave for vaca. on July 1st?"

Sure you can, Jeff and Rebecca Steigenga. Just send a self-addressed stamped envelope to Knoll Street Brewing Company, 916 Knoll Dr. Zeeland, MI 49464. Feel the Zeel!

Now that that's done, let's get to some beer news. Since we are in summer mode, the June beer has still not been brewed, even though it is July 7. If you would like a refund for your beer club payments, please send a SASE to the aforementioned address. We won't have much of a problem finding someone to replace you. For the rest of you, we will be brewing both the June beer and July beer ("Batch 20" and "The Queen" IPA) in no particular order. More news on that as it becomes important enough to post.

I would encourage all of you to try Bell's Berliner Weisse, "Oarsman Ale". A Berliner Weisse is a beer traditionally made with a sour mash. A sour mash is also used in bourbons, Tennessee whiskeys, and Amish friendship bread. A Berliner Weisse usually clocks in around a whopping 3% ABV. It is an incredibly refreshing summer beer. Also, I want to make one next spring/summer.

This leads me to my last point. I'm still looking for suggestions for beers that you'd like to see KSB do next year. Right now I'm thinking we'll do a Berliner Weisse and a Rye IPA for the summer. Obviously we'll do an IPA or two and some stouts. Gourdon was a big enough success that I'm sure that will be reprised for 2011/12. Also, we're doing twice as much hard cider as last year. It needs a name though. "Pantydropper"? No?

Finally, look for "Dogen" and "Vivian" at your doorstep. Should be arriving soon.
